Greenwinds is an NGO (Non Governmental Organisation)
with the following goals and purposes:
1) combat CO2 increase (thus global warming)
Although there are already organisations on a national and international
level approaching this problem we believe there is by far not enough
activity in this area. Also, Greenwinds does not "spread" it's resources.
We concentrate on only one project at a time - until it "carries itself".
The current project is in Australia. Why in Australia? Read on!
2) promote the use and development of alternative energy
sources and water treatment technology
In the current project mainly solar cells and wind power generators are
to be used as energy sources. Both are still in the developing stage,
provide clean energy and need to be promoted.
(Both profit from the same market mechanism: increased use -
higher mass production and quality improvement- lower prices -
increased use -..... ; Both still need to overcome their initial inertia.)
Both energy forms are on their way to becoming financially competitive
to oil and coal generated energy. (Wind energy is closer to achieving
this competitiveness.) Solar and wind power complement each other very
well in the chosen area (coastal desert). The water treatment we're
looking at is desalination - a technology of rapidly growing importance
and fields of application. Subject to the same market mechanisms as
solar cells and wind power technology, we chose reverse-osmosis
(explanation see next page) as the most promising high quantity,
high quality water desalination method.
3) combat desertification and turning arid land into
agriculturally usable land
With Asia's food and energy consumption on the verge of explosion,
making "wasteland" into usable, food producing land has become an
issue of growing concern in the region. With 1/3 of earth's land
surface suffering from some degree of desertification and that
expanding by several square miles a day, we have no time to waste.
4) increase the young generation's awareness of
environmental topics. |
